Who we are

Voyael is written by a small team based in East Java, at the eastern tip of the island, where the ferries from Bali arrive and most travellers only pass through. We started with the places we know best and travel outward from here, one place at a time. Our guides carry the byline "The Voyael team".

Our name

Voyael comes from the old word "voyage": not a trip, but a journey that changes the one who takes it. That is the kind of travel we write for, slow enough to notice where you are. Say it "voy-AYL".

How we research

Every guide starts with official sources: park authorities, ferry operators, transport timetables and government notices. We cross-check them with reputable press and recent traveller reports, and where we can, we check on the ground. Figures that are old or disputed are given with their year and source rather than presented as today's fact.

How we keep it current

  • Every guide is dated. It shows when it was published, when it was meaningfully updated, and when its facts (prices, hours, rules) were last checked.
  • Closures and changes go out as news. Each item names its sources, keeps a timestamped log of updates, and says plainly when it no longer applies. While it is active, a notice appears on the guides for that place.

Corrections

If something here is wrong or out of date, please tell us through the contact form. We check it, fix the page and update its date. When a correction changes advice you may have acted on, we say what changed.

How we are funded

Some links earn us a small commission when you book, at no extra cost to you. It never decides what we recommend, and no business can pay to be included. Read the affiliate disclosure for the details.
